Living Campus Master Plan
The focus of this project was to develop a Living Campus Master Plan for the University of Waikato Hillcrest Campus. Student health and wellbeing was the primary objective, but the project was also to benefit staff and the wider community. The project looked at the campus landscape, encompassing a variety of environments including courtyards, social gathering spaces, fitness centres, sport, outdoor study zones, events and entertainment areas, with the intent to activate the outdoor campus and encourage activity and community interaction. Mike’s involvement as project manager included procurement of the consultant team and overall coordination of the Living Campus project.
The Pa
The Pa project is a significant project at the University’s Hamilton Campus. It involves a new marae facility, student hub, retail outlets and executive team offices. Because of Mike’s involvement (prior to establishing Taylor Coleman) as Project Director during the early design stages, Mike was subsequently engaged by the University of Waikato to facilitate the TEC Business Case for this project, being the key liaison point between the business case consultant and the University.
Consultant Panels
This project involved the formation of a series of consultant panels to provide consultant design services over the duration of the Panel Agreement. The Panel enables the University to verify those pre-qualified suppliers who are capable of delivering building design and supporting project services. Panels were established for architecture, quantity surveying, various engineering disciplines and project management. Mike managed the entire process from initial procurement planning, running the RFP tender process, and contractual negotiations.
Concept Plan Resource Consent
Mike was responsible for managing a project to obtain a Land Use Resource Consent for a campus wide Concept Plan for the University’s Hamilton Campus, including planning approval for the University’s Strategic Campus Master Plan, and specifically including The Pa project.
